Balinese weft Ikat from Tabanan

This is a beautiful example of the weft Ikat (i.e. horizontal vs. More common warp or vertical Ikat). This tradition is typical of Northern Bali. The dominant read color and Potola motif is culturally used to appeas the witch- goddess Rangda. Rangda is not very nice and this beautiful textile will protect you from her, guaranteed. I have not been bothered by her in the short time I have had this in my possession. The weaver said it was pure silk and I believe her. This is an exemplary piece of Northern Balinese weft Ikat.
